The theater was created in 1925 as a gift to Allenstein residents for winning the poll. Hence its name - "Der Treudanktheater" (with German "Thanks for Fidelity"), under which it operated until 1945. In this period, the repertoire of the institution was theater, opera and operetta (presented in German). On November 18, 1945, the theater first appeared as a Polish stage under the name of the Warmia and Mazury Theater. In the difficult conditions of the premises, "The Morality of Mrs. Dulska" by Gabriela Zapolska was directed by Artur Młodnicki. Since 1946, the institution has been functioning under the current name of the Teatr im. Stefan Jaracz. The first artistic team included: Maria Homerska, Hanna Skarżanka, Eugenia Śnieżko-Szafnaglowa, Karol Adwentowicz, Jan Kurnakowicz, Stanisław Igar, Stanisław Milski and Janusz Strachocki. One of the first musical directors was the pianist, Mirosław Dąbrowski. An important role in the development of the theater was played by the director of the institution Alexander Sewruk. In addition to the Olsztyn scene, the theater conducted touring activities in the region and neighboring regions. Until 1975 the theater also had a stage in Elblag. In 1991 the theater started its activity. Aleksandra Sewruka with specialization: dramatic acting, whose director was Zbigniew Marek Hass. Since 2004, Janusz Kijowski has been the director. At this time, the Margin Scene was revived as a place for young artists and formal experiments. In the theater repertoire there are also presentations referring to local themes and issues. In 2014r. The modernization and expansion of the theater building has been completed. a new Margin Scene was created, the Auditorium was rebuilt, the Chamber Scene was remodeled. There was also a link between the theater and the theater.

Big Stage is a place of presentation of classic Polish and world dramaturgy, including titles intended for children and young people. The repertoire of the Big Stage is a kind of careful conversation with the past and the exploration of the meaning of theatrical canon, which makes it possible to better translate the present world. This is the law and the duty of the national cultural institution, Jaracz Theater.

Dominance of the Chamber Stage is widely understood in contemporary dramaturgy, including dramatic arts of the twentieth century and the latest, often first-rate performances. If the Big Stage rules tradition and classics, the Chamber Stage builds the axis between Western and Eastern dramaturgy of Europe.

The Margin Scene is an independent, exploratory and experimental art that sets new trends in the theater, generating questions about the most pressing problems of the so-called "postmodern" world.

On the other hand, the exposition of a young theater - the students of acting schools, who put their first steps on the stage under the supervision of experienced pedagogues - is the essence of Sevend's stage work. Its domain includes both the expression of dynamism and the initiating character of theatrical debuts as well as the creation of an intergenerational dialogue of young people living in Warmia and Masuria.

Apart from the strictly repertoire of the Teatr im. Stefan Jaracz organizes two theater festivals during the artistic season: the Olsztyn Theater Meetings and the International Theater Festival Nowa Europa-DEMOLUDY. Another, equally important element of the program strategy of the Theater are cyclical theater, "Performative Reading", which presents the texts of unknown broad audiences of authors and works by authors of Warmia and Mazury.
