Teatro Carcano Centro d'Arte Contemporanea

Opened September 3, 1803, the Teatro Carcano had its baptism with serious drama Zaira. In the first part of his story, in which was divided between prose and poetry, the first performances of famous operas were hosted as Anna Bolena by Donizetti and La Sonnambula by Bellini and true masterpieces of the scene as El nost Milan Bertolazzi. After years of decline, the destruction of war, the dell'avanspettacolo adventure and the transformation into a cinema, in the early eighties the Teatro Carcano is recovered to its primary vocation and since then plays a vital role in the Milanese cultural life, both as production structure as an open room with hospitality. The great protagonists of the scene have alternated in recent years on its stage, by Salvo Randone Giulio Bosetti (artistic director from 1997 to 2010), by Gabriele Lavia Alberto Lionello, from Marcello Mastroianni and Vittorio Gassman still Carmelo Bene, Giorgio Albertazzi, Turi Ferro, Nino Manfredi, Giorgio Gaber. Among the female protagonists remember Anna Proclemer, Guerritore Monica, Marina Malfatti, Giuliana Lojodice, Piera Degli Esposti, Valeria Moriconi, Marina Bonfigli, Lella Costa, Ottavia Piccolo.

Made even more comfortable after the renovation work carried out in summer 2010 (replacing the flooring and the auditorium armchairs and balcony; remake of the box office; adaptation of technological equipment and the stage, completion of work on security), is a theater totally wheelchair accessible, as the mail room at street level.

For the second year under the artistic direction of Marina Bonfigli, even for the 2011/2012 season, the Carcano respects the vocation which has long characterizes and identifies as the Theatre of Great Prose, believing it essential to continue to transmit to all the generations of viewers the high value of the Word: well-written, well-acted, well directed.
