Johann Uphagen acquired the townhouse in 1775. Within a few years (until 1787) it was thoroughly modernized and adapted to the needs of the new wealthy owner. The house, inhabited by Uphagen until his death in 1802, went on to succeed his heirs, remaining - which was rare in those days - throughout the nineteenth century in the hands of one family.
In 1911, a museum was erected in Uphagenowska, which operated until 1944. At that time, German conservatives evacuated her decor and equipment. The destruction of the house, as well as the city, took place in March 1945. The tradition of the museum was returned in 1998, opening in June the Museum of the Interior of the Town.
Today in the house of Johanna Uphagen you can see living and business premises. A little shopkeeper (now adapted for the museum shop), located on the mezzanine lounge, lined with wooden paneling with paintings of Chinese themes, fashionable in the 18th century.
On the first floor of the street is located the living room, the most representative interior of the house. The room is decorated with white panels with tiles representing ancient buildings. Walls above the paneling cover the fabric. The ceiling is decorated with elaborate stucco decoration, which was once gilded and painted in color. In this interior also draws an English ten-pointed candlestick.
The large dining room is located on the side of the courtyard, on the paneling there are mythological and antique items, Roman buildings, walls are padded fabric.
In the side outhouse there are three small parlor salons with decorative displays of insects, flowers and birds. One of them served as a music room.
On the second floor, the former bedrooms and the lounge are now used as temporary exhibition halls.
In the cross-dressing room there is a small dining room and there is a table and chairs from the former home furnishings. On the ground floor of the annexes, there are utility rooms: a hall, a kitchen with kitchen equipment and a pantry.
