Arts center Haarlem was opened in March 1971 as the Stichting Beeldende Kunst Kennemerland. Founder Jannie Sipkes started the SBK from the idealistic point of view to bring art to the people at home. The concept came from a hobby, but soon this second SBK appeared to be a golden formula after Amsterdam.

Now the wide and varied art collection of professional visual artists includes 8000 artworks and we specialize in applied art and design. The goal of bringing art at affordable prices to people at home has remained unchanged for those years.

The name SBK is changing into Kunstcentrum Haarlem, Art and design in the center of Haarlem.

The collection is available for loan and a small and exclusive collection of artwork by renowned artists is for sale only.

We have works by artists from the international CoBrA movement: Pierre Alechinsky, Karel Appel, Eugène Brands, Constant and Corneille. Today's expressionism is represented by works by, among others, Kees Salentijn, Theo Koster, Jos Verwiel, George Heidweiller. Highlight within the collection is the chart and originals of Jan Montyn. Original work on paper and linen includes more Klaas Gubbels and Jan Montyn and Ada Breedveld. Also works by Piet van Heerden and Gerard Brouwer are very worthwhile.

In the store you can find designs from (inter) national leading designers and labels in various price ranges. With Dry Design, Flux, Muuto, Royal VKB, Seletti, Menu Design and Normann Copenhagen.
