Le Granit, scène nationale, Belfort

Fifty years after the first renovation of the building dating from 1878, Jean Nouvel modifies and redesigns it. The first observation that the architect will make is that there are two different styles. He also realizes that even though the Theater is running, we feel like it's closed. This is how he decides to open it on the city by glazing the facade that is along the Savoureuse leaving visible the interior of the Theater. In addition, he will play on both styles. The old part is retouched while keeping the existing spirit. It's just colors, gold and velvet. As for the part it creates, it is made so that the raw concrete, the traces of the old partitions and the cracks reveal the old walls.
