When, in 1983, the Romanian-born artist Idel Ianchelevici (1909-1994) expressed the wish to create a foundation in La Louvière to promote his work, the municipal authorities decided to transform the building into a museum, numerous layouts were undertaken there. Since then, this communal museum has a dual purpose. He regularly produces temporary exhibitions centered on contemporary art and permanently presents some sixty sculptures and a dozen Ianchelevici drawings from a collection of 2200 pieces in the building.
