The MU Theater has been in operation since the XI capital since 1992. district. According to MU Maja, a sunken continent, the cradle of human culture; survivors founded the Mayan and Egyptian civilizations. This is where the name of the theater was founded by Tibor Leszták, with the aim of providing a community house with contemporary performing arts in the 80's to create a world-class lecture that reflects the social situation, but without adequate support and theater infrastructure . To this original story, we added the "Hungarian Underground" nickname as an addendum - our current profile to be expressed.

As an entertaining theater (also), the institution has many opportunities for showing and playing a variety of theater, dance, art, music and literary composers. Beside inclusion, we aim to create own lectures and theater education programs, organize professional programs (festivals, conferences, workshops), support for district NGOs and create social convergence and conversion programs. The theater also has its own publication, with the quarterly published Parallel - contemporary art magazine. With our classroom programs and complex theater education programs, we also visit Budapest and rural schools regularly.

The biggest change in recent years is that by expanding our theatrical educational projects, social and professional responsibility, including community creation, is a priority. Within our community theater projects, we work together with several civil communities. We offer dance lessons for the elderly, our generational intergenerational performance and the Norwegian Civil Aid Fund, we have a second large-scale community program in the 2015/2016 season.

Our host community service is complemented by two permanent workshops in the theater: the MU Terminál Contemporary Dance Workshop providing dancing training and the one of the most professional theater education in Hungary, the Káva Cultural Workshop.

The MU Theater's mission is to prove that theater is not just passive contemplation but also a forum for active participation and action.
