When in 1983 the Romanian-born artist Idel Ianchelevici (1909-1994) expressed the desire to create at La Louvière a Foundation to promote his work, the municipal authorities decided to transform the building into a museum, many facilities there were undertaken. Since then, the town museum displays a dual purpose. It produces regular temporary exhibitions focusing on contemporary art and present continuously sixty sculptures and a dozen drawings Ianchelevici from a fund of 2200 pieces preserved in the building.
