The Museum was established as a result of a long path of scientific research in the field. The study geo-paleontological the Cilento area, the design and implementation of a development process of the geo-paleontological heritage of the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano held over more than twenty years, gave birth to the idea of ​​the Paleontological Museum . Research started in 1984 and still in progress, have allowed scholars to identify numerous fossil deposits of special scientific importance, both in the massif of Alburni that the backbone of Vesole-Chianiello Monti. Some fossils (fish, crustaceans, plants) from these deposits were found to be genera and species new to science or never reported in Italy, thus helping to provide new pieces for the understanding of the evolution of life on the planet and the environment and geological processes that have ruled in our areas from more than one hundred million years ago. The scientific value of the fossil deposits of the facts and findings, along with the increasing demand for culture and knowledge of its territory by the local population, have encouraged the growth of the Paleontological Museum in Magliano Vetere. The museum, through the guided tour of the collections on display, the laboratory work and teaching in the field, allows the understanding of issues discussed at a public school and non-specialists and knowledge of geo-paleontological evidence of this territory , until now known only to specialists. Learning through experience is thus the best way to understand scientific paths at times complex and, for the younger generation, to guide choices in future training courses.
