The House of Santiago, presumably completed in 1896, was built for the residence of the Santiago de Carvalho family, with a project by the Italian architect Nicola Bigaglia. The House is composed of a first floor, ground floor, where the kitchen and the charcoal (and now the museum's cafeteria) were located; A second, which corresponds to the main entrance and in which were located two halls, the dining room and the winter garden, and that was destined to the reception of the visitors and social gatherings (and that today is a museum space, trying to recreate the environment Original of this house); A third floor, dedicated to the rooms (currently devoted to museum art exhibitions); And finally the attic, formerly an area for the servants (now occupied with the administrative services of the museum). This historic building is a privileged witness to the deep urban and social transformations that occurred in the city of Matosinhos-Leça at the end of the 19th century and throughout the 20th century.
