Museu Victor Meirelles

The Victor Meirelles Museum is a museum unit linked to the Brazilian Institute of Museums of the Ministry of Culture and has been installed since 1952 in the house where the artist was born in the Center of Florianópolis, capital of the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil.

Throughout more than 55 years of existence, the Victor Meirelles Museum has been building its history and identity. A course that includes several exciting events and challenges. The result is a museum of many accomplishments whose process relates the past, the present, and expresses a strong tendency towards the innovations of the future. As an assumption, the idea of a living, active museum that seeks to respond to the requests of the community and the subjects who visit and frequent it to develop their critical vision, to experience singular affective experiences and to draw their own artistic paths with rich and lively aesthetic experience of life.

The Museum today encompasses not only the collection space and the artist's house - historical patrimony - but a contemporary cultural space, with a constant cultural agenda without losing sight of the preservation of the collection and the building with current technical and scientific principles of the museography, museology and preventive conservation. And above all, it expressively brings to the public the possibility of a dynamic living in a museum.
