Muzeum Miasta Gdyni

At the contact of the sea and land is a modern building with a bright sandstone-like ship - a new seat of the Museum of the City of Gdynia opened solemnly 16.11.2007 in the presence of the then President of Poland Lech Kaczyński. This event has ended many years of struggling Gdynia for a place worthy of displaying its past, a place of generational exchange of thoughts, experiences and dreams. The idea of ​​setting up a city museum in Gdynia was established among the local elite in the 1960s. Its activity and determination resulted in the organization of the City History Documentation Department by the City Public Library. At its headquarters was designated a historic cottage at the beginning of the 20th century at ul. Starowiejska Street 30, where a Kashubian activist and Polish patriot Antoni Abraham lived for several years.

Over the course of 14 years, the scientists and enthusiasts of the project have gathered dozens of objects: photographs, postcards, documents of social life, posters, plans, maps, works of art, which became the basis of the collection of the Museum of the City of Gdynia appointed by the city president on January 1,

The headquarters of the house was at ul. Starowiejskiej so-called. Abraham's house. The exhibition and exhibition facilities were set up in the former exhibition pavilion of Gdynia artists at ul. Washington, DC 21, where the building of the Gemini Leisure Center stands today. The years of waiting for the new museum building have gone to organizing exhibitions, events, expanding collections and, above all, building lasting strong relationships with the local community.

Tens of thousands of museums are a source of knowledge about the past and present life of the city and its inhabitants, which invariably fascinates tourists and is a source of pride for the still new generations of Gdynia.
