The SCHAUBURG has existed for over 80 years - the building of the cinema was still a farm at that time and in today's cinema hall, hay used to be stored. After being upgraded to the cinema, visitors were able to choose between 334 wooden folding seats and watch a film for 50 pfennigs - the first film to be screened in front of a paying audience was "BRAND IN THE OPERA" in 1931. At that time there were still 3 cinemas in Burgdorf of them only the SCHAUBURG survived. Gradually, the movie theater conquered a loyal regular audience.
In 1995, the then owner ELISABETH HAHNE decided to undertake a comprehensive renovation and restoration of the SCHAUBURG. During the three months of renovation work, the complete seating was replaced with 220 high-upholstered chairs, new wall coverings, carpets and a more spacious foyer rounded off the concept - the NEUESCHAUBURG presented itself to the first enthusiastic visitors.
ELISABETH HAHNE is known to many people as a "cinema granny." Through her friendly and open-minded manner, she has influenced cinema life in Burgdorf for many years and died at the end of 1997 after a brief and severe illness, becoming posthumously in 2008 with her own street name honoring "Elisabeth-Hahne-Straße".
Since 1998 the NEUESCHAUBURG has been successfully continued by Elisabeth Hahnes daughter Heidrun Lindemann. She is supported by her husband Barthold and son Christian. The cinema presents itself with modern technology and nostalgic atmosphere - a mixture that arrives at the visitors.
Many events and cinematic highlights have revived the cinema program in Burgdorf so far.
