The association Aftonstjärnan was formed in 1892 by some young shipyard workers in a wooded area at Lindholmen. The association grew rapidly and soon, new, larger premises were built at Aftonstjärnan's current location. The house, in its present form, was built after a fire in 1903.

In 1915 the cinema was shown for the first time, making Aftonstjärnan the Gothenburg oldest working cinema. In addition to film shows, the house has held dance shows, sobriety meetings, theater performances and a caramel factory over the years.

By the middle of the 20th century, Afton Star and 1980, the house was almost demolished. However, non-profit forces, together with professionals, were able to rebuild the house with the support of the National Board of Housing and Home Affairs. In 1994, the cinema was reopened after a retirement of 40 years, and the house was then also commemorated by the County Administrative Board.

The house is today owned by Aftonstjärnan's cultural association and is run by the same. Today, the house houses various types of activities. Here are the associations, the cinema and the theater are played.
