With over 1400 museums Bavaria is the museum richest country in the Federal Republic of Germany and one of the museum's richest regions in Europe. Museum work in state, municipal and private museums and exhibition facilities requires greater networking with schools, universities and other educational institutions. Museums are part of the self-understanding of communities and regions of the country and museum work is a focus of cultural education in Bavaria. For training, continuing education and training in museology therefore have the Institute of Bavarian History at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, the country's Office for Non-museums in Bavaria and the Museum Education Centre founded the Bavarian Academy Museum.
