The Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Latina was established on December 18, 1936. The original collection consisted of over 400 works (paintings, sculptures, drawings and engravings) was formed by donations specifically requests to public authorities across Italy, but above all the artists who participated in the Second Quadrennial in Rome and the XX Venice Biennale (including Campigli, Capogrossi, Cagli, Conti, Fontana, Marini, Martini, Morandi, Tosi, etc.). Everything now remain about 70 works for when in March 1944 Littoria was evacuated, and in May of that year, the Anglo-American troops entered the city, the Gallery was the victim of a great dispersion. In 1994 the city administration with various donations and acquisitions has reopened the museum recreating a collection of over 400 works dating from the late nineteenth century to the present day.

I created this page of GAM because there is a real website that can give useful and updated information about the museum, and especially because the citizens of Latin America may finally know the historical and artistic heritage they possess. Francesco Maglione
