Modemuseum Hasselt

The Fashion Museum collection includes about 17,000 items ranging from clothing, shoes, handbags and accessories for underwear. These objects give a picture of the Western fashion history from 1750 until today. The collection policy is aimed both historical clothing as to acquire and preserve pieces of contemporary designers in the most optimal conditions.

The initial collection of MMH consisted of the collection of the Romanian scenographer and costume designer Andrei Ivaneanu (1936-1989). Since 1989, his collection supplemented with purchases and donations. So was awarded the MMH some historical pieces from the 18th and 19th centuries during the 1990s. The pieces from the 20th century, ranging from haute couture and formal dress for ready made garments. Besides clothing from international fashion houses the MMH collects specific couture clothing Hasselt values ​​Jeurissen, Moray and Quentin. This line is drawn in the collection policy of contemporary fashion with creations of Limburg designers like Martin Margiela and Raf Simons given extra attention.

The MMH website unlocks a selection of some 250 collection pieces that capture the core collection. They are briefly described and historically categorized on the basis of scientific literature.
