Museo Casa de los Tiros

Inaugurated in 1929, in a singular building of the 16th century, this museum owes its name, "de los Tiros", to the carabiners or shots that appear between the battlements of its façade. Its installation responds to the interdisciplinary character of every local museum, giving rise to an ambitious encyclopedic program driven by local scholars and patrons. In 1992 it faces, together with its restoration, the introduction of a new museology. The new exhibition project poses a space dedicated to the landscape, where it is shown how Granada is the subject of constant representation. It also has two rooms devoted to orientalism, a concept that would be born in the 19th century. The travelers' room is situated in the European context of the 19th century, where Spain is one of the favorite destinations and Granada, one of the favorite goals of European intellectuals. The industrial arts are the subject of rooms V and VI. Room VII is dedicated to nineteenth-century costumbrismo that focused on types such as the bandit and, above all, the gypsy people. Illustrious Grenadian characters or linked in some way to the city are present as well as their local festivals. It also has a Granada-themed newspaper library, a library specializing in travel books and local issues, as well as a large archive.
