The Museum of Natural History is an academic institution belonging to the National University of San Marcos de Lima, responsible for collecting, researching and exhibiting organisms and representative samples of the natural heritage of Peru and humanity in relation to flora, fauna and gea, in order to generate scientific knowledge and impart it at all levels. The specimens of such samples are studied, conserved and kept in the Museum, forming Specialized Scientific Collections.

The work dissemination of the Museum is done through its exhibition halls, conferences and publications. The Museum offers the visiting public, through its exhibition halls, an overview of the diversity of life forms and gea of Peru, both current and past. It also shows us landscapes of Peru's natural environments through dioramas. The exhibition halls of the Museum are: Mammals, Primates, Invertebrates, Reptiles and Amphibians, Birds, Botany, Fossils, Dinosaurs, Fish, and Minerals.
