Museo in Transito

The project stems from a desire to redevelop a Cagliari suburb in search of identity. empty squares and wide streets crossed mainly by machines characterize the Mulinu Becciu with great potential for rebirth and development of the district. Our idea is to regenerate the urban and social fabric of the neighborhood through art, starting with young people. Inside it houses the Municipal Center Area 3, run by the ArCoEs, which is the only social garrison in the territory. The activity of the center is always addressed to both the district to the rest of the city by opening the acceptance of proposals from the citizens, and working closely with schools to Mulinu Becciu. One of the advantages of the neighborhood is the ease to be reached by public transport from different parts of the city and in particular from line 1 that runs through the city.

As part of a redevelopment of the suburbs operation therefore school, sustainability and culture are the three elements to which of course we referred.

Thus was born the Museum in Transit which provides for the establishment, by the students of the schools involved, the shelters identified in the path of the line 1. The temporary works, mainly made of fabrics, will be processed in reference to the work of the two major collections of modern art Sardinian.

The choice to use as a material for the construction of shelters recycled materials, as well as the sustainability features of the project responds to the dual need to involve the school and citizenship. The Professional Institute Pertini will participate with its fashion course, and at the same time all the citizens will be invited to bring old clothes, curtains, upholstery and other fabrics rich with history, to enrich and contribute to the realization of the project, identifying himself in it.

The project offers the possibility of contaminating the cultural language of the tradition with the views of young people by creating a 'perfect connection between generations. Through dialogue between present and past, between art and public space, it sensitizes the entire citizenry on cultural identity by encouraging the respect of common spaces and street furniture.

Given the importance of the role of public transport, we will begin to all activities with the organization of a round table on the theme of art and mobility and how art can change the perception of public transport and its use. The meeting will take place in conjunction with the European Mobility Week and will be a forum for exchange and comparison of experiences. For the conclusion of the project and the construction of shelters, we have identified over the Christmas period the most favorable time.

Who we are

ArCoEs is a social promotion association founded 15 years ago and 10 manages the Town Center Area 3 of Mulinu Becciu in Cagliari district.

The experience gained in recent years has fueled the need to contribute to the urban and social regeneration of the area in which it operates.

Always attentive to social issues in close connection with the art project in Transit Museum is a point of arrival and a renewed start in line with the changing needs of society.
