The Football Museum is an institution of the Secretary of Culture of the State of São Paulo. Conceived by the Roberto Marinho Foundation, it was inaugurated on September 29, 2008.
Its mission is to research, preserve and communicate football as a cultural expression in Brazil, in dialogue with all audiences, to instigate and inspire ideas and experiences from football.
During the visit to the Museum, it is possible to understand how football helped to form the Brazilian identity and how the trajectory of such as Pelé and Garrincha represents Brazilian culture as well as icons of the plastic arts, literature, theater and music. The Museum tells the Brazilian history and the history of football in the twentieth century, showing the sport as one of the most recognized cultural manifestations of the country.
