The Itajaí Historical Museum, a cultural unit of the Genésio Miranda Lins Foundation, was the first institutionalized museum of the municipality of Itajaí. Its first collection was the creation of a memory institution in the city, João Amaral Pereira. The museum was inaugurated in 1982 with collections remitting to the political and economic formation of the city.   Installed in the Marcos Konder Palace, a state-owned building and recognized as state and municipal patrimony, the Itajaí Historical Museum today has an eclectic collection, dialoguing with the city's urban formation and its residents. In this way, the institution seeks formation in the construction of practices of citizenship and preservation, through fragments of the local history itself.   Within its mission, this Museum gradually invests in educational actions that seek the approach of the student public of public and private schools of education, through visits, courses and lectures, forming new audiences that in future will have another perception of the musealized historical heritage.   Currently, the museum has been seeking its adaptation to Law 11,904 / 2009 and Decree of regulation regarding its management. It is also in the process of initiating the global project of restoration and expansion of the building where today it houses the cultural unit, having as proposal the expansion of the exhibition spaces, adaptation to the current legislation for accessibility and better physical climatic conditions of storage of the safeguarded collections. And not least, the institution is reviewing its policy of collections and acquisition of new fragments of memory concerning the history of the city.
