Museumsverbund Steirische Eisenstraße

Located in the heart of Austria, in the Upper Styria, the Styrian Iron Road on a length of about 100 kilometers an exciting journey through the past and present of ore mining and processing into iron and steel.

Over 10 years ago, the decision was made to unify 12 museums along the Styrian Iron Road in a museum network. This idea has proved to be very effective and successful in recent years and, thanks to the support of EU funds, has led to major renewal in the museums. Newly established networks have contributed to an increase in quality in the participating museums and museum institutions. Joint marketing also includes events such as "seeing museums", which strengthen the image of the museums and bring visitors closer to the interesting past of Montan history. The idea of ​​networking will continue to play a key role in the coming years. Behind the scenes is constantly working on new community projects, which ultimately have a comprehensive synopsis of the goal.

In the field of museum education, the museum network has become an important partner for the Tourismusregionalverband Hochsteiermark. For example, new offers are being developed for school classes that make a visit to Styrian Iron Road a great and sustainable experience for young visitors.

Today, we can look back on very exciting years in which all the museums in the network have positioned themselves well. It remains to be hoped that the coming years will also be marked by the drive and dedication of all those involved. Nationwide, the Museumsverbund Steirische Eisenstraße has long been regarded as a flagship project. This is emphasized again and again by the integration into numerous transnational projects of the association Steirische Eisenstraße.

For the coming years, the Museumsverbund has set itself the goal of further developing the museum landscape along the Styrian Iron Road together with the local authorities in order to be able to offer both locals and guests an attractive and interesting offer.
