Narodni muzej Pančevo

The National Museum of Pancevo is one of the oldest institutions of its kind in the country, and it is located in the impressive building of the former Magistrate, built in 1833 in the style of neoclassicism. Some exhibits that are preserved here today, such as the painting "Seobe Serbs" by Paje Jovanović, the flag of the Serbian Vojvodina from 1848, or objects from the "Starčevska culture" that have been old for thousands of years, in their character are largely outdone local frameworks. The archaeological collection forms a whole and contains objects from the period of the young Stone Age until the late Middle Ages and the time of Turkish domination in 16-17. century, while the ethnological collection shows the objects of material culture and spiritual customs associated with the peoples living in this area. In the diversity of museum material, the equipment of a Turkish warrior stands out. Furniture items and Biedermeier style items are exhibited in the Department of Art History. On a permanent basis there are also objects from artistic and historical collections, such as portraits from the 19th century, paintings of the first half of the 20th century, art group Pančevo 5 and contemporary works by Pančevo painters of the second half of the 20th century.
