Are you a nature fan, who after tiring days of working in the office, being polluted among public transport and bad lifestyle is craving for some greenery? In that case, you are reading the right article. By visiting this place, you are not only doing a favor to your mind and soul, but to your body as well. You will breathe some fresh air, rest your eyes from the black mirror of the screen and feel ultimately relaxed. On the plus side, you will learn a lot about rich flora and fauna in Belgrade. So what are we waiting for? Join me on this soothing journey and allow me to present you the very precious treasure in the heart of Serbian capital, Jevremovac Botanical Garden(Jevremovac Botanicka Basta).
It has a status of a natural and cultural monument. It is a home to more than a thousand (yes. you heard me well) of the most valuable plant species and it extends to around 5 Ha. It is a must see place in Belgrade – Jevremovac Botanical Garden. Now, let me assure you not to be worried about the logistics and getting there. The garden is located in the very heart of Belgrade and surrounded by the most important roads of the city, so it is easily accessible even by foot or, if you are feeling quite lazy that day, car and public transport. Due to its extraordinary surface and grandeur, you might need at least half of a day there, or in the perfect scenario, a whole day of enjoyment in this glorious botanical garden.
Way back in 1889, on the then periphery of Belgrade, Jevremovac Botanical Garden was opened and named after Jevrem Obrenovic, the brother of Prince Milos Obrenovic. This great treasure of the Serbian capital represents the greatness of the work of one of the most famous Serbian botanist, doctor and a lecturer Josif Pancic. Today, the Jevremovac Botanical Garden has a significant architectural and cultural–historical value, as it is the first and so far the only botanical garden in Serbia. Some even claim it is one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the world, but for that I dare you to come and see it for yourself.
Apart from the fact that the visitors can enjoy three large gardens, extremely valuable herbarium and the library, thanks to friends from Japan, there is also a Japanese garden in the Jevremovac Botanical Garden, decorated with plants from so called the Earth of the emerging sun. There are ponds in the middle of the garden, which will take your breath away. What is interesting is that the designers managed to extract water with about 90 meters of depth, so that the muddy lake would be completely natural.
However, the true value of this place is best known by the foreigners and unfortunately not by the locals, who simply do not have a habit of going to Jevremovac Botanical Garden. To be honest, the last time I was there was when I was 15, but the visit definitely stuck with me and created the most beautiful memories, as well as a great desire to come back. The Jevremovac Botanical Garden greatly survives urban pollution, absorbs harmful gases and relieves noise. You will pass by the exotic and rather unusual plants and each one of them will certainly grab your attention. There is a very unique atmosphere and vibe in the Jevremovac Botanical Garden, which you will surely feel and understand the very moment you put your foot inside the garden. The Jevremovac Botanical Garden is an incredible paradise in the heart of Belgrade, and almost like a different planet. That is why it would be a shame not to see it.
