The Norsk Fiskeværsmuseum was founded on July 3, 1987, through a collaboration between the Moskenes History and Museum Society, the Moskenes municipal council, and Mr. Sigurd Harald Ellingsen of Å. Since its official opening in June 1988, the museum has been dedicated to showcasing the history and heritage of the fishing village Å and the Lofoten Fishery over the past 250 years.

As you step into the museum, you'll be transported back in time as you wander through the various authentic buildings that have been meticulously preserved. From boat sheds and a cod liver oil factory to a tenant farmer's cottage, a blacksmith's workshop, a post office, a fisherman's cabin, and even a bakery from the 1800s, each structure tells a unique story of the hardships and picturesque life in a fishing village.

Practical Information

The Norsk Fiskeværsmuseum is open during the summer season, from June 10th to August 20th, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Daily guided tours are available in both Norwegian and English, ensuring that visitors can fully immerse themselves in the fascinating history of the fishing village.

To reach the museum, drive through the tunnel upon arrival in Å and park in the large parking lot. The museum is located in the old center, just a short walk down the walkway and to the left, approximately 200 meters away.
