The Vigeland Museum is the sculpture museum of Oslo. Our responsibilites and ambitions are two-folded. The Museum is dedicated to take care of the heritage of the sculptor Gustav Vigeland (1869-2943) towards the public, and to preserve this for the next generations. In addition to this, the Museum's ambition is to be the most interesting venue for presenting contemporary art within the three dimensional field, i.e. sculpture and installation, and video based art.

The Vigeland Museum is Oslo's Sculpture Museum and one of the finest examples of neoclassical monumental architecture in Norway. The courtyard with fountain, statues and sculptures is encircled by the museum's 15 exhibition halls.

On the one hand, the museum is dedicated to Gustav Vigeland (1869-1943) who worked and lived here until his death. In the museum, almost all Vigeland's original works in gypsum from the 1890s slim figure style to the heavier and more classic balanced expression we know from Vigeland Park, showing, among other things, the Font and Monoliths in scale 1: 1. In addition, the Vigeland Museum is a venue for changing exhibitions. Various expressions are presented within the three-dimensional field, ie sculpture and installation, as well as video-based work.
