Uxa Paraíso - Open Air Hotel

On a hillside, a three-hectare circus closes the valley, we are at Val da Uxa. A site that looks like camping on the farm on two hectares of land, right in the center of Portugal, the geographical position is exceptional.

25km from Coimbra, the village of Penela enjoys the rich and changing landscape of the surrounding mountains. About fifteen outdoor accommodations (mobile homes and light structures), scattered on the ground, are installed in such a way as to reconcile for each a perfectly unobstructed view and a complete intimacy to the point of feeling almost alone in this landscape.

Private parking is located on the outskirts, making the site exclusively pedestrian. Then begins immersion in nature in a charming campsite, equipped with all its equipment: a common dining room, a refreshment bar and a grocery store housed in a truck market "retro look", a "lounge" that combines sun loungers and a library where travelers exchange their books, sanitary facilities accessible to disabled guests, a children's play area and a swimming pool. The dimensions of the land offer the possibility of also welcoming campers and their tents, caravans, motorhomes on a dedicated area. A first experience of comfortable camping for novices, an exceptional site with a human dimension for connoisseurs.

The opportunity to meet with family, friends and simply yourself, closer to nature, in a setting that invites rest, relaxation, meditation, observation of a changing nature over the weeks. From April to June, fireflies twinkle all night long. Follow the time of the frogs who liven up the evenings with their chatter. All summer, the eagles fly over the valley, and in the evening, it's the owls and bats that, without a sound, fly low through the site. A large vegetable garden offering the best seasonal fruits and vegetables is available to all; volunteers met through international networks of permaculture enthusiasts (such as Wwoof, HelpX, Workaway ...) are committed to maintaining it, an opportunity to exchange on techniques and know-how from all walks of life.

It's also a trip back in time for our guests. The houses include beautiful caravans, upscale 60s and 70s, restored for the occasion, and prepared for a new life. Today, they welcome the children or grandchildren of those who had formerly acquired them. Boarding for a few days or weeks aboard a caravan, a perched hut or a spacious tent, is plunging into the world of carefree years past. The caravans and perched modules have the charm of "vintage" objects, they have kept intact the scent of yesteryear, and as in a collector's car, a scent of rarity and very specific that transports instantly to distant memories.
