Valka Local History Museum is the only place where in the historical environment you can get acquainted with the diverse activities of the students of the St. John's Church and the Church Teacher's Seminary. The museum's historic monument, the former teachers' seminar, has set its mission to promote the cultural heritage of the founder of the Latvian pedagogue and choir culture, Jānis Cimze, and his students, to promote the public interest and understanding of the historical processes in Valka.
The museum is located in the building which hosted Janis Cimze Vidzeme Parish Schoolteachers' Seminary from 1835 until 1890. The museum offers: * Permanent exhibition "Vidzeme Parish Schoolteachers' Seminary and Cultural and Educational Activities of Its Students"; * Exhibitions on local history and ethnography; * Exhibition of regional artists' works; * Participation in the celebration of annual traditional customs, making of simple household items and decorations; * Guide service for excursions in Valka and Valka district.
