I have been living in Valencia for almost a year, and I absolutely love the fact that I always discover new places to explore and enjoy – places you would not expect to find in Valencia. This city is one of the biggest in Spain; however, Valencia is not a chaotic or hectic place even though it is quite touristic. The town is very well organized, and its local people play an important role and have deep cultural traditions.

Port Saplaya & its charms

Did you know that in the north of Valencia there is a very picturesque place known as Little Venice? Yes, this was surprising for me too! It is a built holiday village next to the sea officially called Port Saplaya, with beautiful beaches, unique and colorful buildings, small boats and a small harbor that Valencians try to keep as a "hidden gem" for themselves.

Port Saplaya is located in the eastern part of the municipality of Alboraya (where you can find the best horchata in Valencia), and it’s just 5 km north from the Malvarrosa Beach, the main beach in Valencia. It is quite easy to access it; you can drive there, take a bus or, if you want to burn some calories, I recommend you walk from the Malvarrosa Beach and enjoy the views, the Mediterranean Sea and its breeze. And I promise you will not be disappointed once you get to Little Venice!

Its canals, its colorful buildings, its calm, romantic, and peaceful atmosphere will remind you of Venice. It is the perfect place for a walk with your partner or your friends, for enjoying the sunset, and for taking pictures for Instagram! There are many cute and colorful corners, which will be the perfect background for your Instagram photos, especially with the reflection of the buildings on the water. Check out these pictures of my cousin!

Why is it called Little Venice?

The main buildings which dominate the area are home to several holiday apartments and villas - they can be accessed through an archway between a couple of shops that leads into a square with shops, Spanish and Italian restaurants, and bars. The similarities between the real city of Venice and Port Saplaya will immediately become clear and visible. You will not see many foreigners around the area since it's mainly local people who go there to enjoy the beauty, the peace, and the quietness.
