Det Hanseatiske Museum og Schøtstuene

THE HANSEATIC MUSEUM The museum was opened in 1872 and houses two trading rooms. As a visitor you can walk through the building from 1704, which is the only house in Bryggen that has preserved its original interior.

Wander for approx. Five minutes to the other side of Bryggen, you will find the Schøtstuene next to the St. Mary's Church. These buildings were meeting rooms for the Hanseatic in the winter. For reasons of fire hazard, Schøtstuene was placed freestanding in relation to the farms otherwise. During the winter months, the hot meals were served here, otherwise the buildings were used for teaching as a court, meeting and party room. The museum consists of three meeting rooms and a fireplace (kitchen).

THE HANSEATIC MUSEUM The Hanseatic Museum is located centrally on Bryggen in Bergen. The museum shows how the German merchants from The Hanseatic League lived and worked. From 1350 to 1750 these merchants traded stockfish and grains from their office in Bergen. The museum was opened in 1872 and has two trading houses, one facing the sea and one in the back of the tenement. Walking for five minutes to the other side of Bryggen, you will find Schøtstuene next to St. Mary's Church. These rooms were assembly halls for the Hanseatic merchants during winter time. Due to the danger of fire, Schøtstuene were placed separately behind the other office buildings. In winter hot meals were served here. The buildings were also used for teaching and as courtrooms, meeting rooms and party rooms. The museum consists of three assembly rooms and a kitchen.
