IMPERIAL VILLA GALLERY A SARNICO

Protecting and safeguarding the art heritage is one of the missions that the 'man must recover for the community.

HISTORY:

Nell 'ancient village of Castione, in front of the main road with limited green space that separates it from it is visible an eighteenth century villa. The building has a facade on three floors, with a portico with double-depressed arch on columns in the right corner on the ground floor. The first floor is characterized by a 'succession of windows and patio doors with shaped contours and fine protruding cimasi. Crowns the facade an extruded deep eave with gargoyles iron machined shape of a dragon and snake. The facade is defined at the sides for the entire height, from a fake rustication adamant painting, which turn-up at the corners. Roof two massive chimneys in plaster and exposed brick. Also interesting is the eastern facade, on which gives access, preceded by a stone staircase with a small balcony. The building clearly appears as the result of successive aggregations, a core group was to consist of a medieval tower, which still remain guessed the perimeter walls and from which have been identified in some recent essays, traces of foundations. Then the body of the building doubles in the back with the formation of the new entrance and the gallery, which is enriched with many frescoes among which the eighteenth-century "trompe l'oeil" on the back wall, showing the prospect of a stately theater opened on a court depicting the period buildings and two actors in the conversation, the sides of the tunnel, oval medallions with portraits of emperors and, secondly, landscapes and architectural perspectives.

The aim, in addition to commercial and maintenance, are also those of offering enjoyment to those who own and enjoy the pleasure and taste of the architectural beauties of this National Monument. The block was restored by the wise direction of the Superintendent of Fine Arts in Milan, otherwise destined to decay and oblivion, handing intact this treasure of culture to the generations to come.
