Renovated Renaissance chateau with the ruins of a Gothic castle from 1325

Renaissance chateau Kolštejn was built in the 16th century by the reconstruction of the Gothic castle Goldek, which was built on the hill in a mountain village later renamed Branna at the beginning of the 14th century by the Wüstenhube. During the 15th century, the castle became a mighty fortress, from which until now the perimeter wall, part of the western palace and the largely rebuilt large tower were preserved. During the Thirty Years' War, Kolštejn played an important role in defending the imperial troops against the Swedish army, but its importance gradually diminished. A princely brewery was established in the 19th century and later also a municipal school. During the first half of the 20th century, the chateau was transferred to the property of Branné, later owned by the state, and by the end of the last century it was due to its pitiful condition to collapse. Now there is a tour of the reconstructed chateau with an interpretation lasting approximately an hour.
