Istanbul Modern, the first private museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art in Turkey, was established in 2004 to support the widespread use of modern art in society. Located on the shores of the Bosphorus, the museum was transformed into a multi-faceted cultural center in a very short period of time, where people from all walks of life shared the large masses and cultures in daily life.

In İstanbul Modern, there are permanent and continuous exhibition halls, photo gallery, new media area, video department as well as a library for everybody interested in art, masterpieces of world cinema history, new films, cinema, art design with examples and papers from various countries and Turkish cinemas a shop with a wide variety of souvenirs and a café and restaurant with a unique view of the Bosphorus and the historical peninsula.

Our museum is a cultural participation and social meeting place that invites people to create and produce together. The educational programs covering different programs, especially children and young people, aim at providing artistic love and active artistic participation.

Istanbul Modern has a chance to see the present and future of Turkey and to see the internationally distinguished artists of contemporary art together with various stories created with visual and artistic works.

While our museum strengthens the creative exchange between Turkish and Western art as an interaction point, it presents the artistic and cultural accumulation of our country to the world with its past and future.

Turkey's first privately-owned museum devoted to the modern and contemporary arts, Istanbul Modern was founded in 2004 with the aim of fostering an appreciation for art in the general public. Located on the European shore of the Bosphorus, the museum has become a multidimensional center of everyday life.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, there is also an extensive art library; a cinema in which masterworks from the history of filmmaking, new productions, and examples of films and documentaries by Turkish and other countries' artists are shown; a museum shop that offers a wide selection of items that blend art and design; and a cafe and restaurant with an unrivaled view of the Bosphorus and the Historical Peninsula.

Our museum is a cultural and social meeting place that calls people to come and create and engage in artistic endeavors of their own. Education is an important part of Istanbul's modern mission and many different programs and activities are organized to promote a love of art among everyone -especially children and young people- and encourage them to actively take part.

Through activities that are specially designed to meet at different levels, visitors can experience the past and present of Turkey in the past and present in the art of glimpses of glimpses of interaction with distinguished national and international practitioners of contemporary art.
