Μουσειο Λαϊκης Γλυπτικης Τεχνης Αριστειδη Ζ. Μεταλληνου

The sculpurer Aristidis Z. Metallinos was born in 1908, in the picturesque village Ano Korakiana in Corfu. During his life he' s done many jobs like furniture maker, cobbler, builder of fire places and traditional ovens. Often he was sculpturing stones used for the grinding of the olives and also handmills. His artistics talend appeard early , during his younger years, but many difficulties in his life due to the war and poverty didn' t allow him to study in a Scholl of artits in order to develop it. Well on his years he fullfiled his great wish, which was deep inside his soul. He started sculpturing the stone with lot's of ardent wish and love. He ispired by the forklor of his island and especially of his village, Ano Korakiana. His work of art is distinguised by reliefs and status other on white marple and other sculpured on corfiot stone. Those status and reliefs show the agrarian and traditional work, the profession of the countryside people and finaly the corfiot way of dressing .

From the tecqnical point of view, the varius forms in which masculinity is rep, are characterized from a realistic angle while the feminine figures are presented in an abstract form with oval face shapes, accentuated cheecks and happy expressions. Nuolism and passion prevail much of the Artist' s work. Despite being unintentional this is a means by which he highlights social predices and hypocricy.........
