The Museum of Decorative Arts in Namur is housed in the former mansion of the counts of Groesbeeck and Cross Marquis Heritage listed building exceptionally purchased by the city of Namur in 1935. The museum managed by the Culture Department of the city authentically evokes the life of a prestigious 18th century residence by presenting a rich collection of decorative art of the 17th to the 19th century. (Painting, sculpture, jewelry, china, crystal, furniture, tapestry ...). The museum will incorporate the new museum center of the City, "the Boatmen."
Closed since February 2013 for an estimated period of 4 years of work, the municipal museum is the subject of deep heritage and structural restorations. Thus, the old name "Groesbeeck-Cross Museum" was corrected by preferring the historical name of "Groesbeeck-Cross Hotel" supplemented by "Museum of Decorative Arts in Namur" for better visibility of its activity .
The program for this site:
The future cultural center Boatmen:
The renovation of the old Hotel Groesbeeck-Cross is part of the creation of a museum center in the Boatmen district. Around a new garden, the Archaeological Museum and Decorative Arts, the Rops Museum and the Houses of the Count and Poetry will eventually be put in connection. The project provides a common host to the two town museums in the former chapel of the Boatmen, creating a shop in the old stables and a restaurant area bordering the French garden of the Museum of Decorative Arts.
