65 km South of Brussels, the city Namur, the capital of the province Namur is situated. And close to Namur is the small village of Wépion, known for its delicious strawberries.
Wépion
This village is something that should not be skipped while visiting Namur. It is located next to the river Maas and so is known for its water sport facilities. If you come here between April and June (sometimes even until October), you can buy some strawberries from the stands located next to the roads and make a beautiful walk next to the river. While enjoying the strawberries under some trees you can enjoy the view of the nature surrounding you.
Namur
Going to Namur from Wépion is very easy, since they are located close to each other. If you leave early in the morning, you can easily park your car or you can just come by train. The citadel of Namur is a must see and in between the climbing you can find beautiful spots to relax and enjoy the view of the city. You can pack your lunch and find a nice spot on a bench or on the grass to eat it. The nice mix of climbing and discovering the Citadel makes time fly by and before you know it the day has ended.
On the citadel you can also find a copy of a tortoise statue (searching for Utopia), that was made by Jan Fabre and originally was placed in the city "Nieuwpoort" next to the sea. It is a refreshing scene to see this statue that looks down on the city from the citadel.
