Museo de Barcos Historicos

The Maritime Museum will allow the people of Loreto, national visitors from other areas of Peru and international tourists to learn about the history of the boats in the Peruvian Amazon and the heroes and men who dedicated their lives to navigation in the Amazon in restored historic boats . Also, this museum shows the history of Iquitos and the Peruvian Amazon. The Ayapua was built in Hamburg, Germany in 1906 commissioned by a large rubber firm. The Ayapua was one of the many boats that traveled to the rubber states to collect the valuable rubber balls to be exported to Europe and North America. The Ayapua has been restored in detail to its original Victorian splendor, portraying the elegance and richness of the period. The Ayapua will host the exhibitions of the period of the bonanza of rubber and the film Fitzcarraldo. The restored historical boats will incorporate a scenic value on the banks of the Iquitos River and the historic buildings will converge with the historic boats on the river bank.
