The Maritime Museum is an institution devoted to maritime culture with more than 80 years of history whose mission is to preserve, study and disseminate one of the col • Collections major maritime heritage of the Mediterranean.

It is located in the building of the Royal Shipyards, on the waterfront of the city at the foot of the mountain of Montjuïc. The original use of the building was historic building warships for the fleet of the Crown of Aragon. Shipyards were classified in 1976 as historical monument.

This facility is managed by the Consortium of the Royal Shipyards and Maritime Museum, formed by Barcelona City Council, Barcelona Provincial Council and the Port Authority. In 2006, the Maritime Museum was declared Museum of National Interest.

Currently, the exhibition of the collection of the Museum is undergoing renovation, so it remains closed to the public. We are working on the renovation of the museum, which will involve definite change of the institution: it will be a new Maritime Museum.
