Dreispartentheater with tradition

Supported by the state and the districts and cities involved in the theater association, the formerly independent theaters Quedlinburg (drama) and Halberstadt (music theater and ballet) were united in 1992 to form a joint dreispartentheater under an artistic and business management. Since then, the Nordharzer Städtebundtheater has been offering an attractive cultural program for the district of Harz as well as adjacent regions with refreshingly thought-out productions in music theater, ballet, drama, fairy tales and concerts. The traditional city theaters Halberstadt and Quedlinburg are with 500 performances a year an important cultural carrier in the entire Harz region. Every year more than 100,000 spectators are reached.

In the summer, the Nordharzer Städtebundtheater traditionally plays the Harz Bergtheater Thale as well as the Waldbühne Altenbrak and also presents open-air productions at historically or touristically interesting places. It works together with approx. 50 guest play houses in Germany for 16 years. Together with the Domkantorei the theater designed the annual cathedral festival as a prominent cultural highlight in the city.

Since January 2009, music director Johannes Rieger is director of the Nordharzer Städtebundtheater. His concern is to continue the rich musical and dramatic cultural heritage as well as innovative developments of our time over subsequent generations. He cooperates increasingly with partners from the economy and culture of the district.
