Founded in 1995, TEATER FOUNDATION ACT is the first independent cultural and artistic institution in Romania. The main purpose of the Foundation was to set up its own multifunctional space for theater, music, film, dance and spa exhibitions, which it opened in September 1998, on Calea Victoriei, at number 126.

ACT Theater is the first independent theater project in Romania, both a producer of shows, a co-producer and a host scene, and a promoter of cultural actions (book launches, cultural magazine numbers, radio shows, social meetings, personalities meetings of national and international cultural life, creative workshops on various themes) - all in an attempt to diversify their offer and attract loyalists from all environments, giving wisely the space for any well-intentioned and well-practiced culture quality.

Among the first supporters of the Foundation are Tom Cruise, Richard Eyre, Tom Stoppard, Dame Diana Rigg, Dame Judi Dench, Alan Bates, Alan Rickman, Ian Holm and Liviu Ciulei, and founding members of the Foundation include: Marcel Iures, Alexandru Dabija, Arch. Octavian Neculai, Marina Constantinescu, Felicia Craciun, Doina Levintza and Alexandru Darie.

The ACT Theater, as an independent, unsubstituted cultural institution to date, was born, survives and carries on its work through the benevolence and generosity of CONNEX - founding sponsor; ABB - sponsor from 2001 until now, ERICSSON - sponsor 2001, 2002, Mobexpert and Romtelecom (sponsors 2006/2007) and since 2005 with the support of the City Hall 3. The sums thus obtained are used, with a lot of thought, the administration of space, its modernization, the production of new shows and the engagement of new projects - ACT Theater supporting cultural projects that encourage association and collaboration between independent institutions.

The first project of the ACT Theater was the Sunset Citadel by Tommasso Campanella, the screenplay and directed by Mihai Maniutiu, with Marcel Iures and Adrian Titieni, whose premiere took place on September 24, 1998. The success of this first meeting with the theater independently set up the ACT Theater on the list of stage stage professionals, so important projects have been made, including: Thomas Bernhard Theater Creator, directed by Alexander Dabija; How to do with Roberto Mazzuco, directed by Theo Herghelegiu (Production of the Non-existent Theater); Kaleidoscope, a show by Miriam Raducanu (production of the Kaleidoscope Company); Krapp's last band by Samuel Beckett, directed by Alexandru Dabija; Bucharest nowadays on texts by Tudor Arghezi and Horia-Roman Patapievici, a show by Marcel Iures, Octavian Neculai and Alexandru Dabija; Bosses by Werner Schwab, directed by Sorin Militaru; Blaubart, the hope of women by Dea Loher, directed by Alexandra Badea; The garbage collector Mimi Branescu; Bash. A contemporary trilogy by Neil LaBute, directed by Vlad Massaci; Luck helps the heroes of Franz Xaver Kroetz, directed by Gianina Carbunariu; 4:48 Psychosis by Sarah Kane, directed by Tudor Tepeneag; In the Land by Martin Crimp, directed by Peter Kerek; American Buffalo by David Mamet, directed by Cristi Juncu; How it is by Oliver Bukovski, directed by Radu Dragomirescu. In December 2005, the ACT Theater presented, for the first time in Romania, the text of Russian dramaturge Evgheni Griskovets, directed by Cristi Juncu, with Vlad Zamfirescu, Nadiana Salagean, Florin Zamfirescu, Gheorghe Ifrim and Constantin Draganescu.

Since the beginning of 2002, ACT Theater has started touring in the country (Timisoara, Targu-Mures, Lugoj, Brasov, Focsani, Oradea, Bacau, Arad). This program of visiting performances in the form of microstages will be continued.

In addition to theater performances, ACT Theater has been interested in and promoting contemporary dramaturgy, proposing reading performances of texts already activated on international stages. Many of the songs that were read and known thanks to the ACT Reading program were later mounted by theaters such as: Odeon Theater, Bucharest National Theater, La Scena - ARCA Theater, etc.

Since 1998, the theater of theater has diversified and because of the example given by the ACT Theater, which has fueled a whole stream of independents. Maybe that's why the ACT Theater is so well known. Young people visit us in particular, but our shows are addressed to the theater spectator, in general, to the man who still finds nothing but the spiritual that he needs at the theater.
