The idea came about in the late 70s in Paris. The modern pulsating life of the newly opened discotheque "Le Palace" enthused as well as the already traditional Parisian variety shows and also the numerous "café-theaters" on the Montparnasse.

Rainer Binz, the founder of "Chambinzky" was intoxicated by this city and after a theater internship in Munich in 1982 opened the "Café Theater Augustin" in Würzburg. A small pub with a 20 square meter stage in the guest room. Small art, cabaret, readings and lots of music were on offer and of course coffee, wine, beer and cocktails. Of course, the necessary rest for artistic performances was not always required and the desire for a larger stage area grew. Already in the spring of 1983 Rainer Binz found ideal rooms in a former dance school.

The name:

Already "Loriot" aka Victor von Bülow always gave his characters names with as many vowels as possible, because they became original, easily noticeable and unique. The name "Chambinzky" was born in a Hamburg cocktail bar for a day that was not completely untouched. The affinity with the French "Zimmertheater" = "Chambre-Thèátre", the idea generator "Binz" and "ky" for and Co. sounded cheerful and chic, reminded a little of champagne and led to the founding of "Chambinzky Theater & Gastro GmbH" by Rainer Binz and Steffen Röschert.

The opening

took place on September 27, 1983. The guest performance "Beloved Liar" by Jerome Kilty was on the premiere schedule and the first guests barely ventured into it, because the traditional wine-red carpet received down from the mezzanine floor down to the street - initially frightened the somewhat staid Würzburg. But just this unfränkische name, the metropolitan program and the huge selection of drinks soon inspired young and old.

From September 25, 2015, the theater club takes over the catering, let yourself be surprised;)
