In the depository of the Herman Ottó Museum, there are nearly half a million unique artworks. The largest collection is archaeological, whose outstanding units are the first objects of the early period, the finds of the Neolithic Bükk and Bodrogkeresztur culture, representations of the age of migration and the conquest age.

The Ottó Herman Museum was declared a cultural research institute in 1985 by a scientific researcher. In 1999 it became the Museum of the Year in Hungary and the city council of Miskolc awarded the Pro Urbe prize to the versatile and high quality professional activity of the institution. From 1997 on, the Department of Culture and Museum of the University of Miskolc is home to the public collection.

Explorations of the past two decades, in particular the research related to the construction of the M3 motorway and the major investments in the county, have produced enormous results in virtually all archaeological periods. The findings that were recently found have not been supplemented in one case but have changed the picture that has emerged from that era. These objects and results, our current research, events and the work of the Archeology Department will be tracked here, on Facebook and on our soon-to-be-launched website.
