Íslenska óperan / The Icelandic Opera

The Icelandic Opera regularly sets up exciting opera shows, where Icelandic music and theater people are at the forefront. Among the recent exhibitions include Ragnheiði in 2014, Carmen in 2013, Il Trovatore in 2012, La Bohème in 2012 and the Magic Wave in 2011.

The Icelandic opera was formally founded in the late 1970's and has since 1982 been based in Gamla bíó at Ingólfsstræti. Over the last thirty years since its founding, she has set up more than 60 opera shows, ranging from Mozart's classic operas and Verdis to the brand new works of contemporary Icelandic composers.

The Icelandic opera focuses on making use of the power of Icelandic artists from the musical and theater world in the performance of their exhibitions, while foreign artists have also been regular participants. Most of Iceland's leading singers have participated in her updates, and many of the Icelandic singers who have taken their first steps in the opera world on several Icelandic operas later became known and sought after singers in the international opera world.
