The Klabauter Theater is one of the oldest German theaters in which people with disabilities work full-time and professionally as actors. Currently, the ensemble consists of 12 dedicated actors. They train together and create together on stage a picture of the greatest possible variety and expressiveness. The ensemble develops its own pieces or reworks classical as well as contemporary texts. This both on our own initiative and in cooperation with external directors and artists. This creates idiosyncratic and touching productions for a broad audience.

The Klabauter Theater was created in cooperation with the Rauhen Haus in 1998. It is affiliated to the Individual Work Accompaniment (IAB), which belongs to the foundation area Participation with Assistance. Since 2006, the theater has its own stage in a former parish hall near the Berlin Gate. The hall can accommodate about 80 visitors.

Throughout the theater, in technology, service, cleaning or in the office, more jobs have been created for people with disabilities.

The Klabauter Theater is a member of the umbrella organization of independent performing arts in Hamburg, DfdK. It belongs to HAMBURG OFF, the merger of six Hamburg theaters - off mainstream. Since September 2016, the Klabauter Theater has been a cooperation partner in the TUSCH program², Theater und Schule, Hamburg.

In addition to the regular evening performances, groups and school classes can also book performances in the mornings or get to know the work of the ensemble during workshops and rehearsal visits. Starting in the summer of 2016, there will be a workshop on "Fair Start Conditions" especially for schools: the Olympia Probe³.
