Museo della Radio Tuglie

The passion of a collector, Salvatore Giuseppe Micali, the idea of ​​a Museum of Radio Tuglie (Lecce-Puglia).

Micali was petty officer in the Navy and his shift supervisor function of on-board radio station and head of the office of the electronic warfare station found himself constantly in contact with instruments and radio equipment. With completion of their service, and landing places in the world where he carried his work, recovered rare pieces, often of great historical value: for example, an Edison telegraph transmitter purchased in Canada in 1967, or the receivers or galena, however, specimens hard to find unearthed in Toulon, France. The "pieces" discovered with the hound sniffing, collected and restored with original materials through years of dedication and meticulous work, they make up a "collection" of great value. Hence the idea of ​​putting it to their fellow citizens, and available to anyone with an interest in seeing it, examine it to study it. Looms so the idea of ​​a Radio Museum to be implemented within a small community, but very lively in the cultural field.

Opened April 17, 2004 in the presence of Pippo Baudo - guest of honor - the Radio Museum of Tuglie is located in the annex building to an ancient underground oil mill (included in the visit), a structure that is the essence of the farming culture Salento. The realization of the Museum was made possible thanks to the intervention of the Province of Lecce, which supported the expenditure for the purchase of equipment and the preparation of the exhibition spaces and has integrated itself in the Museum Provincial Museum System. The City Council has supervised the renovation of the building he owned on Via Vittorio Veneto, which houses the Museum.

No shortage Museums Radio in Italy, however, that of Tuglie is almost an exception in the south, another opportunity for "cultural tourism" to be added to the natural, historical and artistic beauties of our territory.

The materials that the museum displays and stores, many of which are still in perfect working order, are of great value and are a fascinating journey in the world always on the move in the history of radio. By Edison telegraph transmitter (USA, 1893) to the receivers crystal set or those of the years from 1920 to 1960-70, the exhibits tell a piece of the history of civilization and technology thanks to which it has come to today's speed and complexity area of ​​communications. In the scope of the Museum there is also a bibliographic industry (books and magazines) on the history and techniques of radio communication: a Library "specialized" in the Radio Museum.
