Museu da Língua Portuguesa

The Portuguese Language Museum is an initiative of the Government of the State of São Paulo, through the Secretary of State for Culture, conceived and carried out in partnership with the Roberto Marinho Foundation.

Created to celebrate the Portuguese language and Brazilian culture, the Museum of the Portuguese Language received about 4 million visitors in its 10 years of operation.

Being the first in the world totally dedicated to a language, it brought to the country a new museographic concept, which combines technology and education. With an audiovisual narrative and immersive environments, allowed visitors to discover new aspects of language, founding element of the country's culture.

The installations of the Museum of the Portuguese Language were hit by a major fire on December 21, 2015, which forced the closure of the space for public visitation.

In January 2016, an agreement was signed between the Secretary of Culture of the State of São Paulo, the Roberto Marinho Foundation and the social organization IDBrasil with the aim of rebuilding the Museum of the Portuguese Language in the shortest time possible.

The reconstruction of the Museum is sponsored by EDP, sponsors Grupo Globo and Grupo Itaú and support from the Federal Government through the federal law to encourage culture. IDBrasil is the social organization responsible for the management of the Museum.
