Museu de Arte Sacra de São Paulo

The Museum of Sacred Art of São Paulo, maintained by the Secretary of State for Culture, is one of the most important institutions of its kind in the country.

It holds more than 18,000 pieces in the collection, remaining from the 16th to the 20th centuries, all invaluable.

Since 1970, the Museum of Sacred Art of São Paulo occupies a wing of the Monastery of Light, an important monument of the colonial architecture of São Paulo, built in pylon taipa, a rare example in the city.

Even today, the Monastery of Light houses the Order of the Conceptionist Sisters, who live in enclosure. It was registered by the Institute of National Historical and Artistic Heritage in 1943 and by the Council for the Defense of Historical, Artistic and Architectural Heritage of the State of São Paulo in 1979.
