Museum of the Macedonian Struggle / Μουσείο Μακεδονικού Αγώνα

Our museum will take you through the history of modern and contemporary Macedonia during the last phase of its domination by the Ottoman Empire. You will learn about the armed struggle in the countryside and the undercover operations that took place under the building’s very roof, as well as other aspects of its colorful history.

Engaging audiovisual presentations will further expand your knowledge of Balkan history. You will also follow Greek guerilla fighters (“Makedonomachoi”) through the wetlands of Yianitsa; watch a guerrilla fighter narrowly escape a raid in the school where he was hiding; witness a munitions transaction in a railway station; wander the cobblestone streets of the romantic and contradictory 19th century Thessaloniki.
