Naturkundemuseum

Das im März 2013 völlig neu gestaltete Naturkundemuseum in Graz erzählt von der faszinierenden Vielfalt der belebten und unbelebten Natur. Ausgehend von ausgewählten Objekten aus den bio- und geowissenschaftlichen Sammlungen wird der Museumsbesuch zu einem spannenden Spaziergang durch die Erdgeschichte, in deren Verlauf sich nicht nur die Lebewesen, sondern auch de Lebensbedingungen mehrmals grundlegend verändert haben.

First opened in March 2013, the Natural History Museum tells a fascinating story about the diversity of animate and inanimate nature. Proceeding from carefully chosen objects in the Natural History Museum (botany, geology & palaeontology, mineralogy and zoology), the state-of-the-art permanent exhibition takes the visitor on a journey through the fascinating history of the Earth in the course of which living organisms and creatures and their foundations of live have constantly evolved. Regularly staged temporary exhibitons offer profound insights into individual themes. The "Lesliehof" was the original home of the Joanneum and now accommodates the Natural History Museum. It has placed special emphasis on the natural sciences ever since the Joanneum was founded in 1811 - after all, the founder, Archduke Johann, was very kneen on nature and technology. The mineralogical rooms in the Natural History Museum still recall the early days of the building in which a (now rare) classification of minerals from the 19th century can be viewed in the original display cabinets from Schloss Schönbrunn in Vienna.
